Research Associate (Fixed Term) - 2 positions

The Macromolecular Materials Laboratory is seeking two Research Associates to work on the production, characterisation and molecular modelling of polymeric membranes incorporating carbon nanotubes (CNTs) for desalination applications.

The first post (LJ12079) will be concerned primarily with experimental work on synthesis of carbon nanotube fibres and forests using chemical vapour deposition techniques, infiltration with polymeric matrices, and characterisation of the resulting membranes using electron microscopy, Raman spectroscopy and thermal analysis.

The second post (LJ12080) will be concerned primarily with numerical modelling of the separation efficiency of CNT-composite membranes using both atomistic and mesoscale techniques in order to guide the experimental design of membranes for reverse osmosis.

Both positions are available immediately on a full-time basis, and have a limit of tenure of 31st December 2017 in the first instance. The work is funded by the King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology (KACST)-Cambridge Joint Centre of Excellence for Advanced Materials and Manufacturing (CAMM).
